A very atmospheric piece. One of his best I think [can only go on memory tho'].

I have the whole of this play recorded from C4 circa 1984 although it was made in 1978 by LWT. It was part of a series of 6 and was probably the best

It 100% definitely still exists, but it was made by LWT, not the BBC - it was part of a series called 'Six Plays By Alan Bennett'. Network DVD would have the rights, so lobby them - they did an excellent Jack Rosenthal box set, so I wouldn't be surprised if they had plans to do something with these titles.

I haven't seen all of this play but damn i wish i could!!!

I'd KILL to see this again

Great performance Bernard!

You're in it? Do you play the teacher? It's a fabulous play, and I really wish it was on again. Morrissey was talking about it to Russell Brand on the radio a few months ago as one of his favourite TV progs ever, which reminded me of it.
Did the BBC wipe the tapes of Bennetts plays and if not where can you get them? Compare that to todays television and weep

They chucked lots of stuff out, but they would have kept these. It's probably the contract where everyone gets paid again that's stopping them. They've given it all to Jonathan Ross.

Great to see a bit of this again (it was repeated in the 80's but my tape went mouldy)- more please! It's an excellent TV play and Morrissey recently confirmed what I've long suspected: that he nicked some lyrics in 'Ask' from it.

Vic - Sadly, I only kept the scene I was in. Probably because of the cost of tape way back then (and some stupidity).
Glad you enjoyed it.
