Aries Sales and Carulyn Rule relayed the message of internal migration through a combination of poetry and video documentary titled Langyaw sa Dabaw: Ang Pagkyagiw sa Lumad.
The theatrical-documentary addressed certain stereotypes of urban migration its causes and chronic effects. Many issues of migrants were likewise discussed in the film however, it focuses on those that involve Lumad migrants. (Lumads refer to the indigenous people in the Philippines). The film featured three main case studies: a Lumad scholar studying in one of the prestigious colleges in Davao, an artist who migrated to the city and an old man who lives as an informal settler. Each of them told their stories, their hopes and how migrating to the city has affected their lives. The poems used in the film were written by Lumads as well.
This project was produced through a workshop spearheaded by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Probe Media Foundation, Inc. (PMFI). Dubbed as YouMove: Filipino Youth & Migration, the programme provided opportunities for students in communication-related courses to increase their awareness and understanding of migration (regular and irregular) and produce creative outputs that focused on their chosen subjects.
