Film Submission for Nine Inch Nails "Ghosts" Film festival. The concept of this piece is small intervals of composition and dissolution and that expands upon a project I am exploring in my painting and mixed media work. Layered images combine, dissolve and recombine to form subliminal, transient patterns throughout the video. The words in the background/foreground/texture are from a rambling musing about the differences between my brother and I and our relationship to music, life, and our respective design fields. It is intentionally hard to read as you only ever see the middle of each sentence. In that respect, this piece also deals with relationships between people. You only ever get a portion of their presence, as soon as you are no longer with them, there is an entire before and after you may never know. These fleeting qualities of both the images and your interaction with the world around you are what make each experience so hauntingly beautiful. You can scroll back to find that thing which caught your eye, but it will never be as real as when you first experienced it. Thus is memory, thus is life.
All the "footage" was taken with my Nikon D50. most of the moving images are from the College of Design at Iowa State University, while most of the still compositions are blends of photographs from Germany and The Ledges State Park
