This week's Youth Questions video is different than what we usually do. While most of our videos provide answers, advice, and input from youth workers, parents, adults, and teenagers, this week I don't have time to pull off a normal video. I'm just way too swamped with trying to get my second book completed and sent off to the publisher and other work. So, instead, I'll share with you all one of the questions that was submitted and ask you guys to answer it instead! Give your best advice, help, and input for this teenager who broke up with his girlfriend but still wants to remain friends with her. How does he do it, even after she calls him names? Is it even possible in the first place? Share your stories with us as a comment or, better yet, as a video response!

THE QUESTION
I went out with this girl for a week. I felt like she was just dating me to be able to say she had a boyfriend. So i broke up with her. We were friends, but later she sent me a text message that was meant for someone else. She called me a nub. I want to be friends what do I do?

  • i don't know what a "nub" (nube?) is... it must be something bad?

anyway, if she called you that because she feels rejected by you for breaking up with her, then it's not a good idea to try to be friends.

if she really does think you're a "nub" then she's not your friend.

either way, you're probably better off taking a step back to get a broader perspective.

(i can't help being curious about why you want to be friends with her? that may be a good thing to pray over.)

  • I am going to assume this kid was called a "nube." And, really, the only thing I have to say about this is - sometimes we lose friendships. The ones I ever tried so hard to keep were the ones that I never did. So, if it doesn't come naturally, anymore, then I would just let it be. If it a friendship never takes off, again, that is OKAY. We all have different personalities for a reason. If you got a "fake dating" vibe, you probably have a fake friend vibe, too.

  • Friends don't call friends names behind their back, you should seek healthier friendships :)

  • You don't want to be friends, not only did she have a strike one with fake dating you but she also called you a nub, which I assume is a bad thing. Not the kind of friend you want.
