The Nation of Ulysses were so phoney, so afraid. Think of the political era they lived through and they hid behind style and image. Their political pronouncements were a kind of sub Marxist, sub Situationist, sub Godard form of child rhetoric. Bed wetters, mirror kissers, history fuckers.

they were a rock and roll band. Get a grip. Uber-political music is usually terrible, and always only preaches to the converted, rendering it benign. Bob Dylans political songs were just as veiled by style and image. The mystery they built could move mountains and is constantly ripped off too this day.
