Memorial Day 2009 in Carbondale, Illinois

In Woodlawn Cemetery, the site of an original memorial service led by General John A. Logan which inspired him to set in motion the establishment of a Memorial Day celebration each year. To this extent, Carbondale, Illinois has a valid claim to the origin of this holiday.
