Great local ad from 1972 with Walt Rock and the great Jerry Smith of the Washington Redskins. Smith caught 421 passes and scored 60 TDs as a TE, a record he held for nearly 25 years. Smith died of AIDS in 1986. It is believed that he was the first former professional athlete to die of the disease. Both Rock and Smith played in the 1973 Superbowl, ultimately losing to Miami.

  • Good thing for NFL players to be featured in an early '70s video ad, a time when their popularity and income had yet to really take off.

  • Walt Rock. If that's not the perfect name for an offensive lineman, I don't know what is.

  • No "Don't make a $300 mistake" jingle yet.

  • @MrTennesseeVols I thought Kopay was in the car buisness out in San Francisco now.

  • It is now the late Jerry Smith.

  • Dave Kopay did NOT die of AIDS. He is very much still alive!!!

  • Jerry Smith was involved with former Redskin and 49er Dave Kopay. Unfortunately both died of Aids.

  • I remember the mid-late 1970's Rosenthal Chevrolet jingle that went: "Don't make a $300 mistake, see Rosenthal Chevrolet".

  • @WookieCookie OOPS!
