  • there will always be conflicts between security and access. these barriers are to stop vehicles/joyriders accessing the path i take it? i suppose a system where a disabled user could have a key to a lockable barrier would be best.

  • > these barriers are to stop vehicles/joyriders accessing the path i take it?

Yes. But the funny thing is I reckon I can wiggle a 2 wheel motorbike past them no problem but NOT my 4 wheel mobility scooter. As such they're not only a nusiance to all disabled people but unfit for the purpose for which there were originally intended.

  • HI COL,

this latest film youve done regarding accesibility for the disabled, to get out and about and enjoy what what fit healthy people take for granted, youve made a good point in your film, and just hope someone with a bit of pull in our town hall watches your film and does something about it,

    keep up the good work,

    kind regards

  • Hi Bernard thanks for your comments. The official line of the town hall is that the barriers are required to prevent misuse of the paths by motor cycles. The fact that I know I can wrestle a two wheel motor bike round them a darn sight easier than a 4 wheel mobility scooter just goes straight over their heads. Maybe I ought to do a video of me doing that eh? ;-)

  • Cheers mate, I loved your spinaway restoration and tope fishing vidoes, I'm so jelous I could spit. ;)

    .

    Dear unity.,

To propose a key is to treat the disabled individual differently...

    ,

To treat differently is against the Act.

    cheers.

  • yes agreed, shame they cant use a bit more thought really

  • Another case of civil 'servants' getting it wrong.

Well done for making the point!

  • As a cyclist, I also consider those barriers to be unnecessary, and my thoughts are often with wheelchair users when I use that same route over the slag-bank.

  • I cant wait to get the boat back in the water, it feels like its been on dry land for years, It will be next spring before shes ready now we were beaten by the weather this summer, I watch your vids to pass the winter hours away, I intend to cross the bay to do some fishing when shes ready, Might run into you, Cheers Jim.
