This year's weather is to blame for an uptick in bear attacks and sightings in Northeastern New Mexico. There have been four bear attacks on Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron. Two attacks involved people, the other two involved dogs and a goat. There have also been six bear sightings, where the animals got into campers' backpacks that hadn't been hung up properly.
