"The surf is high, and on the far side of it, a wave greater than its fellows is shouldering out of the blue, glinting immensity of sea."
-- Henry Beston, "The Headlong Wave," from "The Outermost House"
Anyone who had the opportunity to visit Coast Guard Beach in Eastham yesterday (Oct. 19, 2008) was experiencing what Beston wrote about in The Outermost House. Much like the autumn day Beston was experiencing, this day featured a stiff northeasterly wind, fueling an already heavy surf casting itself into the beach. The wind was courtesy of an ocean storm to the east and a strong high pressure area to the west. Winds were steadily blowing in the 25-35 mph range, with some higher gusts.
