Thanks for posting. This is one of the songs that come to mind when you imagine yourself at the gates of Hades tasked with deciding what one Dylan song you would take into an eternity of torment

This is Dylan at his most piercing. It is hard to reconcile with the emotional devastation of even one stanza of this song, let alone the entire song. I am glad he wrote it all the same. 'I hate myself for loving you, but I'll soon get over that'.

Me encanta este LP, Dirge y Hazel, lo mejor. Gracias a mi primo Fredi, que es un gran fan de Dylan y que lo ha seguido por todo el mundo, que me dió a conocer tan bellas canciones.

Planet Waves is not discussed much and it probably shows the greatest range of emotion, from the hate of Dirge to the Love of Wedding Song, and topped off by the blessing of Forever Young. Great Album by the Greatest musical Artist of my time. and I'm in my 60's.

one of the most piercing, devastating songs I have ever heard. Brilliant, thought-provking assessment of a profound relationship gone wrong.

thanks! one of his greatest songs. excellent guitar play from robbie robertson
"I hate myself for loving you/And the weakness that it showed/You were just a painted face/On a trip down suicide road." Dylan at his most raw. What appears to be a vitriolic attack on a partner is equally savage self-hatred - we contribute to our own destruction. I can't think of many songs that take us to the edge like this one where the singing and the playing are so in tune. Adults Only.

This whole Planet Waves album is sorely underappreciated. Dylan and the Band. Dylan's marriage breakup songs at an even rawer stage than Blood on the Tracks.
