I'm part of a "newer generation" and I think they're both excellent in their own ways: I love the strokes, but this is the roots of that- Nikolai is a great bassist- but Saunders is a virtuoso, Alfred and Nick are great lead guitarists- but Lou Reed & Robert Quite are animals- the strokes needed to prove they were cool. These guys already knew/invented it. There would be no strokes or WS without this- go listen to White Light/White Heat and tell me it doesn't compare to Room on Fire or Elephant.

everything about lou reeds lead playing shouldnt work, he bends random notes, uses loads of feedback, hits bum notes, but for some reason everytime he solos, it sounds like he's communicating with some sort of spiritual force, it's just magic.
