My comment said that American audiences are not as dumb as the networks seem to think. Notice the word 'not'. When the word 'not' is in a sentence, that means that the opposite applies. For example: 'Americans are NOT dumb' is the opposite of 'Americans are dumb'. If you have any more questions regarding this admittedly complicated grammatical problem, feel free to ask.
