Immigrants. They leave home - and often family - and all that's familiar to start over in a new land. Canada has been built on them. Still is. Twenty years from now, it's projected that one quarter of all people in this country will be foreign born. More than three-quarters will have a mother tongue that is neither English nor French. With immigration levels at historic highs, how is Canada treating its newcomers?

  • Thanks to the PC's heartless immigration policiies, I am unable to visit Ontario with my Jamaican wife. I am a Canadian citizen. My wife was denied a visa to visit Canada four times. We travel freely to most other countries (spending money to the benefit of these welcoming countries) however my own country does not allow me to visit Canada with my wife because she is Jamaican. Shame on you Canada. Shame on the PC's, Harper and Jason Kenney, Minister of Immigration.

  • I partly agree with you, but living ina different country and learning eveything there takes at least 1-2 years. If I were a immigration minister, I would definitely make interviews mandatory for those who applied for permanent residency. They have to see how this family is prepared to live here, and what's their expectations. Huge gap between 2 cultures can be a problem, and can cause crimes. Preparing children, teenagers to a different life in canada is very very important too.

  • Canada and Canadians are open and tolerable of others but those who are welcomed in are not open and tolerable of Canadians.
