Liam Spencer at Salford Art Gallery

Saturday afternoon saw hundreds of visitors at Salford Art Gallery, The Crescent, Salford to see the new exhibition by artist Liam Spencer entitled; Painting From Life.

Liam is one of the North West's most succesful artists: he came to public attention in 2000, with an exhibition "Urban Panoramas" at the newly opened Lowry arts centre in Salford.

He is also known for having produced motifs and other artwork for the 2008 UEFA Cup Final in Manchester. His art was featured on promotional material and signage for the event.

The exhibition is a mixture of paintings from the last twenty years and many of them are of the Salford area - not surprisingly really because Liam had a studio off Blackfriars Road, Salford for several years.

His work sells for many thousands of pounds - and so it was not a surprise to see the well-known art dealers Brian Hanstein and Julian Williams among the audience on the opening night.

Chapel Street features heavily in the exhibition as well as paintings of Eccles, Worsley and Salford Quays.

Also showing on a backdrop was a DVD of the BBC North West 30 min documentary about his work, "A Picture of Manchester" which was broadcast a couple of years ago.

I am a big fan of Liam's work and would urge anybody with an interest in art or even Salford to visit this exhibition, I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed with his work.

The exhibition will run at Salford Museum and Art Gallery until 3rd July 2011.
