Jelena Jankovic stopped after she saw ball came through the net, chair umpire Mohamed Lahyani said he didn't saw that and gave point to Kanepi(crowd boo him) , JJ tried to explain to him but he kept saying i didn't saw???? Jelena aksed Kaia what she saw, and Kaia showed good sportsmanship and admitted that the ball went through the net. Jelena welcomed for that move.
Players def. umpire :)

  • atleast Kaia was honest.

  • Damn, the players have to do the chair's job too!! Thank goodness that Kanepi is an honest player otherwise Jankovic would have lost that point. How the hell didn't he see the ball go through the net right in front of him!!?!

  • @pelmeen in this video era she could not have hide the fact :)

  • fking dumbass umpire

  • Roger federer hate that umpire..

  • @jyozeff I mean you have to apply common sense when interpreting the rules. If the rules should allow the balls to pass through the net then why would the net exist at all?

Regarding Serena's foot fault, I don't see the linkage to common sense at all. If the linesperson thinks it is, then she has to call it. Only that there's nothing to verify if it was true. Plus it is not the foot fault which decided the outcome, but Serena's inability to control her emotions.

  • @mssheltn1 Maybe because he was looking ahead where he thought the ball was going to bounce? The way the ball moved did make it look as though it had hit the top of the tape...

  • @istoriposhivz don't think that is a good point. We don't make rules according to how we feel they should be when we play tennis. If you think common sense is so important then what about foot faults on a match point? It is clearly not common-sensical that going inside the court a few milimeters should be the factor deciding the outcome of a match.

  • @jyozeff Because passing through the net isn't supposed to happen, it is common sense that if a ball hits the lower part of the net then it should not pass through and the player should lose the point. I think this is a 'grey area' in the rules, but if you apply common sense, there should be no arguments at all. In these unusual conditions, it is more important to consider what is more sensible instead of fully relying on the rule book which may not be comprehensive.

  • @Oreoclan maybe you are referring to 25.(a) which does not state it is NECESSARY that the ball passes over the net but is sufficient. Maybe people like you don't know how to do logic, or how to read for that matter.

  • @jyozeff

What kind of rule book do you have? I have the ITF tennis rulebook printed out and it says balls that go through the net are considered to be errors. I forgot who gets to call it in a match without umpires though... I suspect the returning player gets to call it...

If you had to concede points that were yours according to the rules, grow a brain and print out the rulebook and carry it in your bag! Maybe if you read it you would know the points weren't yours.
