October 5, 2006 - The three white Bengal tiger cubs were born on May 28 at the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo north of Frederick, Maryland.
However - wonderful as they are to watch, I have more recently learned that there is a dark side to white tigers. See http://www.bigcatrescue.org/white_tigers.htm

The little one being left out for more than half the time made my heart sad.
So cute how the other cub runs around the rock and jumps on him from behind.

As cute as they are, they truly DO have to be inbred in captivity. Every single white tiger in captivity comes from the same line, and the gene is double recessive. Therefore inbreeding, which oftentimes results in grotesque deformities and early death, is necessary.
