John Paul's nest blew down in a spring storm. The Wisconsin Humane Society was able to replace his nest with a secured wicker basket and return him to his parents.
I'm not sure if the society DID anything to the parents to draw them back. Perhaps this was a rare incident in nature. Sometimes things happen. Have you found any publications that show abandoning behavior in birds? I can examine them for details.
I'm confused. If an owlet is pushed out by an overbearing sibling or is left dying due to insufficient food or a predator attack, don't the parents often leave the chick for dead? What did the society do to draw the parents back?
And is it true that owls don't build their own nests, with the exception of Snowys who can scrape their own mounds on the tundra?
cute name for an owl :) Glad everything turned out well for him.
