i'd love to know what exposure setting you were getting on your d300 when using the flourescent lamps for the photo shoot- because I can't get anything better than iso100 f2.8 out of them, which does make them a little limiting compared to strobes if I need to work at f8

On a D300 you can push ISO to 400 and stay clean. Try that for high F-Stop settings. But also which model fixtures are you using?
