THE FLIP SIDE TO "GOT A DATE WITH AN ANGEL",AND ALSO FROM THE SHOW"FOR THE LOVE OF MIKE"A LOVELY JOLLY TUNE.PLEASE NOTE THE HIGHLY TECHNICAL AND CAREFUL WAY IN WHICH I ENSURE THE PICK UP HITS THE FIRST GROOVE!!!!THE SINGER IS DAN DONOVAN,WHO RECORDED SO OFTEN WITH THIS LOVELY BAND.

  • On a number of the Somers 78s i own from around 1930 there is a little number indicating the tempo,so was obviously a precision band for dancing.

  • As good as Bowlly. Somers as ever! military straight back, dashing moustache, immaculate tie and tails. shows doesn't it?

  • I think Dan Donavon is one of the "top draw"group of singers along with Bowlly and Sam Browne.I also like George Barkley, who sung with Charlie Kunz.

Debroy Somers has the perfect look to go with his music i quite agree-very much the dashing military type!

  • Lovely recording, Somer's band always reminds me of ''little nuts and bolts'' turning on a steam engine! It always has a very strictly kept rhythm. lovely!

  • What a clever way of putting it-i'd never have thought of that-very apt indeed!

  • I love this band! Puts a smile on my face. Imagine dancin' around a crowded floor with your partner. Seems your knees would get bumped a lot! All part of a happy night out trying to forget about the Big Depression!

  • Somehow far more 'English' than Bowlly, the version I know so well. Somers with his precision Band brings to mind the 'oh so English' sounds of Sydney Baynes' dance records.

  • Put the records on here uploaded and the records are saved from extreme wear!. What better way to broadcast to the world than on the original Gramophone. More, more!!
