Brave Kids was founded on June 9, 1999, by Kristen Fitzgerald, after the loss of her two children to catastrophic illnesses. We help children with chronic, life-threatening illnesses and disabilities by connecting them to desperately needed health services and resources such as financial assistance, camps, support groups, child care, dental assistance, transportation and physical therapy.
It is estimated that over 12% of children within the United States have special healthcare needs. It is well-documented that children with special needs often fail to receive vital and beneficial services which can improve the quality of life for both the child, their family and caregiver. Sadly, many families and caregivers are simply unaware of the resources that exist within their community. In the absence of a coordinated outreach of educating professionals and parents how to utilize technology, many parents cannot locate the services that they require for their special needs children.
Award winning www.Bravekids.org fills a large void for children with special needs and their families by providing a comprehensive multi-lingual directory of health services and resources, relevant medical information from healthcare professionals, emotional support through message boards and access to support materials. The Brave Kids program has been approved by and is linked to over 110 health organizations such as: The National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, The National BrainTumor Foundation, the National Pediatric AIDS Foundation, United Cerebral Palsy, and the National Children's Cancer Society.
