Isn't the plaster of paris sensor pretty slow?
Where are you actually measuring the mositure? in the air, in the soil?

or you could use one of those motorized sprayers vs a trigger sprayer. When it get's dry the sprayer turns on and mists the frogs and have it shut off after 5-10 seconds or so.
