This piece is from my senior recital. The description from the program notes is listed below. For better quality audio please visit, www.MatthewRNugent.com and hit the music tab.

"Meine Rose," Op. 90/2 (My Rose) offers a subtle radiance that partially displaces the work's pessimistic chromaticism. Using an ABA form, the description of the wilting flower occupies the first verse; the second is slightly passionate, but still soft, in its questioning of whether a broken heart can be revived with love as a bloom can be with water; and finally, the last stanza literally repeats the first. In a quite clever manner, Schumann repeatedly made both the vocal and piano lines fall, in imitation of the flower's wilting action.

  • Well done!! Both voice and face expression conveyed very well the feelings of this beautiful and delicate lied. You just should make a contrast in the last stanza, because it sounded just exactly the same as in the beginning. John Cameron (australian opera singer, made a career in England), specialist in lieder, taught me to sing that repetition of the poem even more piano, with lots of intensity, but very piano.

    All the best to you and God bless.

  • Gorgeous. :) I'm singing this on my senior recital this year, too.

  • Absolutely beautiful! You're a lovely baritone. I'm singing this piece on my senior recital this semester, too.. but as a soprano, of course. :)

    Alles Gute für Sie !!!

    ++ Gruss aus Luxemburg ++

  • I like your stoic performance. Pretty piece.

  • Good performance! I loved the tempo, anyway, I would prefer a more passionate and 'tragic' performance. Thanks for the post

  • Pretty piece.
