hm... haven't watched that vid yet, but i gotta say that just because a scientist believes in a god, it doesn't mean diddly. what god does @ believe in? y do they believe in it? more importantly, y does any scientist believing in a god mean i should believe in a god too? which god should i believe in? am i supposed to believe in the god 'you' believe in? and further, how does god-belief affect the fields of science these people were in? just the title of the vid leads to a lot of questions, lol

i'm not sure how you come to the conclusion that these men were exceptions. but i can see your point.
from my perspective maybe whether or not people choose the "easy" answer and stop searching is more a statement about human nature than religion. obviously non-religious people can make this same mistake

you should be a teacher!! or more so a professor. You would have kept me more interested in school! lol god vid
also if we are going to discredit religious people for not believing something. we should credit them for believing and exploring science when it happens. the same institutions that said no at first, thought about it and debated, then said yes.
again i think human nature is a common agent in advancing or holding back science more so than religion. even now science does the same to itself without religion's influence. new ideas are often laughed at until they are accepted decades later

But you are missing the point sir. There are verses in the bible that interpreted to mean that learning about anything but god is wrong. That is not human nature, its actually an expressed instruction.

i think i could see your point better if you could post some verses that expressly instruct people they can't learn anything but god. i've studied the bible but can't think of any off hand.
but lets say that is true for the sake of discussion.. i'm not sure which is worse, slowing progress because of religion or slowing progress just because.
many babies died because doctors refused to wash their hands even after it had been proven to save lives, religion had no influence on that, pride did.

I am sorry, the verses that I am referring to could be interpreted that way. But more to your point, there were two theories of disease back then. One was the germ theory, and the other (and more popular, mainly because it took less education)was super natural possession. It was about pride sir, it was about belief. History is full of examples where science isn't embraced fully because people are more afraid of being called heretics, than the implications of the new science.

It seems like you are arguing from the basic assumption that humans are evil. And then by extension, religion must therefore be good...i am not trying to put words in your mouth, im just trying to understand your position more carefully

I appreciate your input. This subject of course could be debated 'till no end, so I think I'll just leave it by saying nice video.
