Here's a song called "I Believe" performed by Larry Johnson (guitar) and the late Nat Riddles (blues harp). It's from the album "Basin' Free" (recorded in 1983), released on the Spivey record label. This album (LP) is very rare and almost impossible to get.

I was very lucky to get hold on an original copy of this record. I digitized the whole album, even cleaned up the sound and removed most scratches, etc. Nevertheless you can probably still hear that it's transferred from a record, but that's just what I like as it is the original sound of vinyl.

"I Believe" is the first track on the album, please enjoy!

  • I have the album 'Basin Free' with dust jacket. It's great. I love it.

  • I have also the original album with dust jacket. :-)

It's a collector's item I guess, and I was bloody happy to find one!

  • thanks for this one,iv never heard of nat riddles befor, must hear more from him,thanks.5/5

  • Nat Riddles was also a mentor to Adam Gussow (KudzuRunner). He speaks often very highly of this great harp player who sadly passed away way to soon.

  • The great Nat Riddles tone and swing finally appear on YouTube! Thanks for posting this.

  • Thanks a lot for supporting my efforts to spread Nat's music, Adam.

  • Hi there SwampBluesTed, I'm trying to get hold of this album. If I was to personal message you, would you be able to provide a download link for your digitized version of the album? Would really appreciate it if you would!

  • The reason I'am so emotional about this song is that my Hero King Emore James sang it first and it got's a special meaning for me.Wrong vaccination for small pox (double) gave me epilepsy for lifetime and medical specialist allway's told me that I ain't got long to stay on Earth and now I'am still here while birth took place Decenber 31,1951 and that's why I Believe my time ain't long brings Tears and shakes my Soul Man

  • He got's the same tremblin' sound as Big John Wrencher with his one arm and Carey Bell and Billy Branch.Big John told us once that in times amoh where to expensive to buy they used a empty glass in frint of the harp and that gives that howling noise,my late daddy did the same

  • I saw all old and new Blues Giants from Muddy Waters Willie Dixon Big John Wrencher,Sonny Terry Brownee Mcghee Joko Taylor Albert Collins Lightning Hopkins and spoke with them with a brother of mine but we are back in oure childhood man blues overtooks you like Muddy told us and Walter Horton and whe just keep on crying for it makes us tremble and shakes our soul tell it,tell it and call me out just as black folks screamed loud

  • Hi!!! greetings from Panama, I am so happy to hear Nat Riddles, for me that loves the sound of a good ol harp playing blues the discovery of Nat Riddles is for me discovering a piece of jewelry. You can swear I do my little work to spread the godspell of Nat.

  • Wow! This is great! Larry had a dynamite group going at that time, playing regularly at Kenny's Castaways in Manhattan, with Nat Riddles on harp and Hank Brandes on drums... they were absolutely smokin'!! This is one awesome cut!

  • Awesome!!! *:))
