  • @cowboyx1970 Southern states entered the union the same time as New England states did, and slavery was practiced in New England at that time just as in the South. Go read "tracesofthetrade (dot) org" and see how the DeWolf family was, in Katrina Browne's own words, "the very tip of the iceberg in New England complicity in slavery." The wealth of many New England families was built on slavery, and providing slavery for plantations.

  • @bluegrassreb1 You are so right about that, all of that is true.

  • @cowboyx1970 The 3/5ths clause is in the Constitution, and it is there because Ben Franklin insisted that it be there based on a compromise concerning how states would be represented in the legislature of the new republic. So, in the sense that Ben Franklin was from Philadelphia and that's in the north, then yes, the 3/5ths clause is therefore a "northern" idea.

  • @Cionaodh57 dunce. Southerners knew damn well they were outnumbered by northerners, or else why insist on a 3/5ths clause? or maybe the 3/5ths clause was a northern idea? huh? The founders knew exactly what they were doing and though it put if off it would eventually be dealt with, properly, the way it was being done before southerners deceided they wanted to take their ball and go home.

  • @cowboyx1970 A completely bogus and unfounded opinion. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that slavery was going to end or that having entered voluntarily into the Constitution one should know that it will end. The Morrill Tariff raised the duty on imported goods 47%, so the South was paying a tariff to export its raw materials, principally cotton, then paid another tariff just to use the finished product. And all that money went to people in the Federal govt who hated the South.

  • @tbone2872 i m with u there!

  • @bluegrassreb1 My question was more or less rhetorical in nature but you're right, it is an asinine assertion that the civil war was fought solely over the slavery issue and that the North was this great bastion of racial equality. Only about 5% of southerners actually engaged in the practice of slavery. I believe, as do many historical scholars, that the war was fought mostly over the Morrill tariff and other excessive federal taxation emplemented to control the agrarian economy of the south.

  • @bluegrassreb1 Just that we're clear that you hate America, and you are welcome to leave anytime you like. If you like the Japanese so much, go live there.

Southern states enter the contract knowing full well that slavery would eventually have to end...and when it looked like it was going to (through constitutional means) "Waaaaaahhhhhh, I wanna keep humans as pets"

  • @cowboyx1970 CALL IT A TRITOR ALL U WANT BUT SHOULD ANYONE STAND AND B WHIPED?THAT IS WHAT IT WAS LIKE FOR SOUTHERNERS IN 1860... A FORCED UNION IS AN OXYMORON! CALL THE FOUNDING FATHERS TRAITOR AND U WOULD B RIGHT!

SOMETIMES LEAVING A SHIT HOLE IS NECESSARY!! TRIATORS? REALLY? HELL YES!! MANY DENY THAT SHIT!!!! HOW CAN U B PROUD OF IT? UNDER HE STARS AND STRIPES WE GET SLAVERY FOR 200 YEARS, THE EXTICTION OF iNDIANS, HELL EVEN THE END OF THE SAMURI N JAPAN ENDED UNDER BLUE COATS, BUT B PROUD?

  • @tbone2872 if u are seriously asking, NO only 1 in 10 Confederate soldiers owned a slave1 so what were they fighting for? states rights!!

No one wants to b governed by assholes a 1000 miles away! Yanke armies attacked the SOUTH and so they meet resistance.

anyone surprised? the 5 border states that owned slaves but DID NOT secede also sent troops to the SOUTH(and north). BUT THERE WOULD B NO ARGUMENT IF THE NORTH WAS HOLY AND FREEDOM FIGHTERS..... INSTEAD THEY RAPED AND PILLAGED THE SOUTH!!
