This is my first silver/picking video. I started picking/silver hunting at the beginning of this summer and I believe I have done very well so far. I've been watching other people's videos for a while and now I figured I would make one too! Enjoy and lemme know what you think!

Also, here is the link to the video I found about removing sterling handles from old knives: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UfXeGRkt1M&feature=channel_video_title

  • How do you know if you are dealing with silver and not some alloy mix?

  • @RobertMOdell There are 3 things I look for

First, if it is magnetic, then I know right away it's fake. Second, if it has no markings, odds are it is not silver (however, after you've been doing this for a while, you get to know what's silver just by the look). Finally, I acid test it. That's the only economical way to really know.

  • what website do you visit for metal prices?

  • @MAXKC1 Kitco for scrap, coinflation . c o m for coins

  • Wow cool finds...i do the same...love it !!!!!!! It's like a treasure hunt..where did you get your scale and testers things?

    thanks!

    Good job on the video

  • @1dandiesmom I used to work at a jewelers tool and supply company, so I had it from those days. You can get it all on eBay or Amazon though. Thanks for your comment!

  • the handle is filled with a white substance.

sorry its not as heavy as you think :'(

  • @Silverpicker there is also filling, like in the handles of sterling knifes.

  • I have been doing some of the same things in my spare time. I do mostly jewelry, but am thinking I should do a little more looking around.

My husband is no picker :-) He likes me to just look at the jewelry and leave if he is there, but poor guy, he is always waiting on me so I can pick through one more box! I have won him over with my jewelry buying though, when I pay < $4 and make $30 or more! I would have a great time, if I didn't have to work full-time and could get out more!

  • so how much did you end up making on all that?

  • @MAXKC1 I use Kitco . c o m

  • you meant to say 42.5 gram
