Is guilt a bad thing?

This is me reading text from a brother's email. He states that guilt is the natural effect of having a conscience.

Thanks Ian, very touching and profound. I have awakened to strong feelings of guilt and shame for my past behavior since I have attempted being chaste. I have even had to face the realization, that perhaps I was negative karma being put into another persons life. That is a sobering realization, but I believe it is never too late to get on the right path and make amends.

It's better late than never, but also sin is sin. There is always a price for it. I think a great blessing of having become celibate is that now I have the courage to face up to my karma. If there is still a price to be paid for a sin in my past, I will gladly own up to it. Praise God that I'm not racking up karma like that anymore. Life is much easier and happier now, being charged with Krishna vibrations.

I thankyou for this Ian, it resonates true. Just to add though, there are different sorts of guilty feelings; e.g a busy mother may feel guilty if she takes some time out for herself.
