@syd28brent Actually no, I don't drive a car. I take mass-transit, which does require some oil, but not near as much as if everyone on the train were to drive into town. Even when I lived in a small town, I walked to work.
Are you aware that humankind got by just fine without cars for a very long time?
Fortmcmurray is a city of 50000 people. Why pick on them? Why not new york. Shanghi chicago? Is there not more pollution in these bigger cities? Do people really need to live there. Lets face it we need oil. Even tree huggers like yourself drive cars.
These people are saying this project is literally killing them, so I hope you've got something to add rather than saying, "who cares the river was already polluted."
@Snickbud Wow. Aren't you productive. Is that the How about an alternative idea?
Surely you're not implying that further pollution of the river is a good thing, or that the removing all that forest, destroying ecosystems and native homeland is a good thing. Right?
Please tell us more about your pipe dream. We should just close the tar sands so the alberta ecomony will colaspe. But hey. We will have a cleaner river in fortmcmurray oh wait a minute i forgot that river was polluted a million years ago hmmmm!???
@Snickbud Human lives or the Alberta economy. Which is more important?

So what are you saying? What is your solution?
