WE DISAPPEAR is the third novel by Scott Heim. It is published in paperback by HarperPerennial, and will arrive in bookstores on February 26th, 2008.

This short trailer for the book provides the atmosphere for this psychological thriller about obsession, addiction, and loss, a book that should please fans of Heim's earlier MYSTERIOUS SKIN (which was adapted for a 2005 film by director Gregg Araki).

Accompanying music by Cindytalk.

  • I'm curious about the artist doing the music. Can anyone enlighten me. It's as haunting as Gary Jules doing "Mad World" and Moby's "Porcelain".

  • Cindytalk is the band. The creation of Scotland-born singer and musician Gordon Sharp, who is also known for singing on the first album by 4AD project This Mortal Coil and a Peel Session with the Cocteau Twins. Some of Cindytalk's back catalogue has recently been re-released, and it sounds as groundbreaking and amazing as ever.

  • I got to meet Scott Heim! He came to my school!

  • The Cindytalk song is "In This World" It is the last song on their album IN THIS WORLD.

  • man i cant wait to read this book! it sounds really good! i've already read Mysterious Skin & In Awe.

  • Awesome video to complement the story.

I just finished the book yesterday. Honestly, I couldn't put it down. The descriptions and dialogue were always vivid, yet never over the top. And the ending stuck out the most to me - it was a brilliant and memorable way to end the story. I'd definitely recommend the book to anyone.

  • Anyone know the title of the Cindytalk song playing in the trailer?

  • Young Man Of Blair Street. Please forgive those from the primordial sludge, they need the attention so they write the stuff of nonsense.

    Back to my tower...

  • This piece does a great job of setting the tone of the book; the tireless journey seeking truth, the faces of the lost, the cold, stark Kansas winter, the unlocking of secrets. Scott Heim tells a beautiful story of death, addiction & of course, the missing; one so full of despair, that I found myself having to set it down at times. His evolution as a writer is clear & impressive. Chapter twelve is pure heartache. Oh, chapter twelve... :(

  • you just can't please some folk,eh.books don't have trailers therefore books ought never to have trailers.brilliant.all back to the primordial sludge then.after you,nazard513...

  • Since when do books have trailers? That's kind of insane. Not only that, but the trailer and synopsis both paint the novel as some kind of mystery or suspense. Maybe I'm missing the point, but it seems the book is not ABOUT missing children, rather the ideas are expressed THROUGH a plot which involves missing children. "We Disappear" is not more about disappearances than "Mysterious Skin" is about horror movies, cicadas, and peaches in jars; or "In Awe" horses, corn syrup, and El Caminos.

  • What a great mood piece! Captures the spirit of the book.
