@etrax2000 -- Cont... in addition to the sound and orchestration, check out the venues themselves, on My Name is Barbra, the sets with Burt Bacharach, esp. on "Be Aware," and you'll see they were masterpieces of acoustic design - a GREAT vocal enhancer. Even Celine Dion has stated that her favorite place to sing is in an underground parking garage - where anyone can be operatic...lol. All things considered, this performance is most definitely not lip sync. The sound is enhanced, sure. that's it.
@etrax2000 -- Wait, are you saying the shows/specials of 1965-66 were pre-recorded themselves, or the tracks of the songs themselves being pre-recorded, or both? I think the one performance that settles it all is her 1968 performance in Central Park. Now we're talking outdoors, where any singer, including Whitney Houston, will have their sound muted because the optimal acoustics are gone. And you can hear virtually the same strength of vocal. Her sets, in addition to fantastic sound...cont.
@FMoran1966 I am not the Music police, Miss Streisand will not lose any of her accolades due to my opinion, becayse that is what they are "MY OPINIONS".People are now praising ADELE, but i suspect she too uses undertracking, not the same as total lip sync, but preety close to it. check out Adele on letterman and the british music awards. the piano player doesn';t even match the chords that he is pretending to play, and Bab's early tv specials were pre- recorded, not done live.audio tracks
@etrax2000 - Cont...Naturally she would have tele-prompting at an Oprah performance. We're talking about songs she hasn't sung in over thirty years. People need to study the entire body of her live performances, concerts and compare them to her studio productions. Contrary to the cynicism of the Auto-Tune era held by people under age 40, there have actually been real singers in the world, Barbara being the best of them.
@etrax2000 -- I have no idea why people are so naive concerning audio technology, particularly the difference between "Enhancements" and lip-syncing. If by enhancements, you're referring to a microphone and orchestra, then yes Barbra Streisand employed enhancements. Have a good look at her videos from the years 1963 to 1976. Any trained ear and eye will see her performance was nowhere near the fraudulence of a lip sync. Cont...
@FMoran1966 WHY ARE PEOPLE SO NAIVE CONCERNiNG AUDIO TECHNOLOGY ? Ms. Streisand even used audio "Enhancements " during her Oprah concets. It's no disgrace. it's just done routinely. Whenever she missed the words, the delayed camera would simply cut away. check it out.
@UnTicPitic re: etrax2000 -- Look! I'm sorry you were born too late to experience a generation that didn't hinge its career on Pro-Tools or Auto-Tune, or other studio wizardry to create a voice that otherwise isn't there. Barbra Streisand is a high-caliber live singer. She can actually sing. Imagine that! Check out her live television shows from the sixties and early seventies. All live, no studio tracks. All she needs is a mic and an orchestra, and she's on!
@billygoyboy Yep. She nearly hit all of them. She's about an octive lower, on average, than she used to be, but she did come very close to hitting all her original notes on this one. I was very impressed, after being a little disappointed at the fact that her vocal cords would actually get older...lmao. We always want the perfect, youthful original. But she did great on this one. And what a great one to do great on!.
This power even in her 60's.... wow.. the greatest of the greatest
