Radical change in the air. Short narrow boards pitted against wider boards. Waves gong off for a big contest! Who could ask for more. Tony Staples puts on a great show but gives way to the attacking style of Rick Rasmussen and the precision surfing of Dr. Jim Cartland. It Was ... better back then

  • I first went to Ceast Coast's Hawaii, Rincon, Puerto Rico in April 1967, just after Eric Eastman, his brother Steve, Rollie Eisenberg , Bob Hawkins and Charlie Bunger went there.   • Rick Rasmussen was the best Man at my Wedding in 1980!! He was sadly taken from us in a violent manner! RIP Ricky!!!

  • WOW! I remember this well... I still have a Surfer Mag that featured this whole event. It had Rasmussen on the cover riding that same board coming through a section stepin forward with the barrell chasing him down...
