I remember watching this one, I was about 12 and I was screaming my head off after that close

Watch that Ride from the 1/4 pole. Terrible riding on Midnight Lute. If that Jock keeps him in the 2, or 3 path he would crushed this field by ten, in that soup bowl called Monmouth Park :0..Jersey!.

@sikcaesar -Good call on Richter scale :)

Although Midnight Lute was impressive winning this race, you got to hand it to Talent Search who set a 21 2/5 quarter mile and then a 44 flat half mile and still finished a game third.

That was some speed shown by the winner, he just took off, it was easy in the end

this race gives me the chills everytime i watch this. it's amazing.
i figured i would screaming if i was there seeing Lute win like that

I would place Kona Gold and Artax up with Lute. But, yes Lute was absolutely amazing in this race and then in the 08' Sprint as well. Lute was also a decent 9 furlong horse, running competitively vs. Brother Derek, Arson Squad, Awesome Gem, and Spring At Last in the Strub series.

That was one hell of a run by Midnight Lute! 10 lengths behind around the far turn, but came flying down the lane to win it.
10 lengths behind Commentator and Benny the Bull at the first call. What a sick, sick horse. Absolutely incredible. In the past ten years among sprinters I would only put Richter Scale in his class. And he would crush Richter Scale.

Although this announcer overuses the expressions "looking like he just jumped in at the quarter pole" and "coming like an express train", in this case he's absolutely right!
