Twenty years after Billy Ray Cyrus recorded his song dedicated to the troops, "Some Gave All," on the eve of Operation Desert Storm, the multi-platinum singer-songwriter comes full circle in his long and enduring relationship with the U.S. Armed Forces -- with a powerful and patriotic collection of songs titled I'M AMERICAN.

True to Cyrus' mission to give back to those who have given and sacrificed so much for America, the Buena Vista Records project has its roots in a late 2009 USO tour in which he completed in Iraq and Afghanistan, accompanied by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Michael G. Mullen. Cyrus performed "Some Gave All" for small and large crowds, in foxholes and in hangars, even in one setting where he it was interrupted by bombs going off in the background. The song made music history as the title track from his 20 million selling debut album, which spawned the worldwide "Achy Breaky Heart" phenomenon. It also became an American anthem that earned the artist the Congressional Medal of Honor Society (presented to him by then-President Clinton and Bob Hope).

Humbled and refreshed by his experience on the USO tour, Cyrus returned to the States with exciting new musical ideas. Inspired by the many stories servicemen and women told him about how the song had influenced their lives, he approached the label with the idea of re-recording it for a new generation of troops, while paying respect to all veterans past and present. This evolved into a concept album anchored by the final track, the new version of "Some Gave All," featuring Cyrus and fellow country stars Jamey Johnson, Craig Morgan and Darryl Worley—all of whom, coincidentally, are veterans. "It was one of my highest honors to be joined by these three incredible artists," says Cyrus. "They were just the right guys for this musically, and they bring a rich, deep history with the military, as well as a real edge. The track has a very unique outlaw element to it."

Why isn't this song placed along side america's greatest patrotic songs like Angry American or God Bless the USA or Ragged old Flag. The industry and the public has unfarily labeled cyrus as a talentless one hit wonder who rided on his daughters fame. To me he's one of the greatest country artist of all time and an insparation. Such a kind, talented man.

Always such a special patriotic song & anthem, written by Billy Ray and first recorded on his first album of the same name! Billy Ray always gives all to his music and fans, he is the most incredible man and entertainer. :)
