  • In this type of sea anemone, the sexes are different. This one is a male and is releasing sperm into the water. The waster currents will bring the sperm in contact with a female who is releasing her eggs the same way. The fertilized egg then develops into a larva called planula. The planula will eventualy settle down and become a sea anemone.

  • You are wrong. They are capable of both.

  • @chewitback I am aware that they are capable of both. I too have propagated many anemones (include the one above) as well as a host of other soft and hard corals. Thanks for the info though.

  • @ken668 they are capable of both, like other soft corals (such as their close relatives, mushroom corals). If they only reproduced by splitting then anemones wouldn't be found all over the world, nor would there be so many of them. Yours might not spawn due to water conditions that the spawn would survive, but due to heavy feeding they get large and split. I propagate anemones as a business, for what its worth.

  • Sorry, but once the thought popped into my head I had a hard time not laughing! That looks like a really bad case of gas! XD

  • @95hamsterlover They can do both......research it yourself.

  • @ken668 No, sea anemones reproduce by splitting into two... research it.

  • i thought they were hermaphroditic? aren't they capable of producing both sperm AND eggs?

  • anenome spoof.. who woulda known

  • @cassieferraro Damsels and clowns

  • @ken668 Yes, mine did that too except in a much worse result. My tank is small and my anemones are monster size. The oxygen level was depleted resulting in some losses. Had to change the water. Both anemones are completely fine after the event.

  • Not true there are meany types of damsels that can live in anemones too cause that what clown fish are they are damsels
