@wilkbor He said they are harder to break and if they do it's 4 pieces to put back together, not 42.

Thanks for the tour. I certainly appreciate the benefits of a touring bike, but still don't understand the benefit of bar end shifters. You said they break down more easily? How is that an advantage? Thanks in advance, wilkbor.

much prefer interupters and cant stand bar end shifters - sure they are easier to fix but they are not as comfortable to use

After much research, i have found something of importance that i feel must be shared with all people that like to tour. I have found that 520 cromolly and 4130 cromolly are the exact same cromolly steel frames. WOW was i surprised to learn this. I have a link , however it will not let me post it here for some reason to show this. I currently own a Mercier Galaxy, way less than the Surly, yet made of the same steel.

You had stated that the fram was 520 cromolly steel. I thought the bikes were made from 4130 cromolly steel. Witch is it...thank you..
