The dream of eternal youth. Research in Spain has revealed a tantalising possibility -- that we might one day not only be able to delay the ageing process, but halt it altogether.

  • @MrBoboFace

There might be other factors than just shorten telomerase causing aging.

Theres a few theories out there on aging: free radical damage, glycation, various genes etc.

A multple approach to tackling aging is probably the best or safest way to deal with the aging problem.

I have faith in gene therapy, drug cures, nanotechnology etc

  • @DaStefanP to tell the truth I would rather be immortal, im just too curious about life and what might be :-)

  • @DaStefanP and if say what you say does happen i am sure it would easily become the norm n we will learn to cope, there was a time in the states not long ago were it was very taboo for women to have jobs or sex out of marriage and alchohol was banned look how it is now, humans cope really fast :-)

  • @DaStefanP and if say what you say does happen i am sure it would easily become the norm n we will learn to cope, there was a time in the states not long ago were it was very taboo for women to have jobs or sex out of marriage and alchohol was banned look how it is now, humans cope really fast :-) but honestly I would rather be immortal than just extend my life.. I am just way too curious about life and what might be :-)

  • @DaStefanP if a life span is 70 years doubling it woukd be 140 with mid age being at around 100 or 110 years of age (much like our current 50 years not actualy being 35), if you ask any 70 year old they will tell you it all went by too fast.. i think most ppl undervalue the human ability to cope with change, after all that is our evolutionary advantage :-)

  • @Okarkar ,, look at the movie, man of earth. it tells a great story , but also inmagine this.. i can life forever and despite how much i will be able to love someone, after a few hundred years or so. we might get seperated, a lot can happen. but in let's say 200 years time i will have my seedlings in 8th generation if not more.. with an average of 2 children per generation, that's 512 relatives, i would have to be REALLY carefull in my dating life ;) now inmagine a 3rd marriage 200 years later..

  • @Okarkar well i actually agree with you for the most part. and in fact i think my generation will be able to choose a moment of death if they would wish so.. i personnally can't wait to see my grandsons grandson... but hea, that's me, like they said in the video, most people wunt want immortallity, BUT how do you think this will reflect on society in the near future. looking at things like the zeitgeist movement and futurist shows on discovery, no one seems to consider our base instincts

  • @DaStefanP 4 things to change society will need a catalyst, might as well be a good 1. we don't need immortality doubling the life span for now is sufficient. each family would be allowed 1 or 2 children, this will come down world population, something that is much needed, can you imagine what scientist would be able to do in 140 years of life. amazing. :-)

  • @Okarkar well what do you think ?! the implications are HUGE , if we truly would find the fountain of youth, do you think we could retire at old age ? things would need to change before society is ready for etarnal youth

  • ...10 years ago...still nothing :) i wonder what happend with her research...
