Listen now. This was the only good part in the whole episode. Ben 'Yahtzee' Croshaw must stop being such a pansy and start making more of this. Alone.

  • What game is it at 1:47?

  • @TiRa999 Alone in the Dark

  • This is a cool skit, episode, whatever it is. I'm not one of those Yahtzee nuts that thinks he's a God and likes every game he likes; but I do think he makes great points in every game he makes. I'm finally going to go try one of his games since I hear he makes some of his own.

  • @PalaceOfExile hell yes. Try the Chzo Mythos. You might throw in the 1213 and Aitgofw between the chzo mythos games. It's totally worth it.

  • @primusbassslap3 But the emphasis on his actual punchlines hit so much harder

  • how did they avaid mentioning MYST is beyond me

  • @shadowhexogram Tim didn't get the "street cred" that you speak of until critics made a big deal on how Psychonauts was overlooked. It's easy to see why Psychonauts didn't make money; its concept was very different than what was on the market at the time and the advertising (what little there was) was rubbish. And give Psychonats some credit, humor is not the only great thing about the game. The levels are very creative and not just generic fire and ice levels that you find in other platformers.

  • @hall9111 Hm. Looking at the wiki article apparantly you are right. the game got nice praise. Very interesting though that it didn't sell well. You could still sell a platformer if you had good street cred like schafer did. So why did it not sell? Well i've never bought it despite the outcry so i'll try to answer that. It doesn't strike any interest in it's presentation, it's humor alone doesn't really sell me and it's art style is kinda weird and wonky looking.

  • @shadowhexogram I hate to be blunt, but it was applauded by critics, and it was acclaimed. Ergo, it was critically acclaimed.

  • @hall9111 Oh yeah. Yathzee did review that game. and in that review he too mentioned that the gameplay had problems. Like quite a few. But he liked it for the same reason it gained a general cult following. It was different and it was fun. People like it but its it's not really successful and truly was not critically acclaimed. Saying such would be like saying Patapon is a mainstream game. Meaningful but not quite true.

  • @shadowhexogram Allow me to paraphrase a review of Psychonauts from Yahtzee. "Best of all, it's fun! remember that? FUN!? Before gaming became a second job?!"

  • @hall9111 Critically Acclaimed was it? I remember reviews of it complimenting it's sense of humor and whatnot but it's gameplay elements were always the one sign of contention. It also didn't sell very well although it's does have cult love and apparently a sequal is in the works so I guess. Ratchet and Prince are known for there gameplay elements being completely solid and Psychonauts doesn't quite have that grace.

  • @shadowhexogram Sorry, I need to better state my criticism. What I meant to say is I disagree with that Yahzee's claim that the point and click genre is outdated and boring. And regarding Psychonauts, it is one of the most critically acclaimed platformers of the last decade. Right up there with Prince of Persia The Sands of Time and the Ratchet and Clank games. How much better company could you get?

  • @hall9111 What? Apparantly I have to watch this again cause I don't get where you are coming from with this. What I got was that point and click games adapted and changed to become part of other genres making them stronger and ultimately better off. And besides I wouldn't take tim schafers advice regarding good platformers. There's technically been much better.
