  • a question i must ask:

after you succeed slapping these cool fills, how do you make them get into your improvisation vocabulary?

how do you choose a fill, out of all the many you know (that goes well with the improvisation you are doing)?

  • @madd1magnum That is absolutely one of the most intelligent questions I've been asked in a while! Seriously, you're thinking about the music! That's the goal! And to be honest, there's no way I could answer that in a quick YT message. I think that I'm gonna try to do a video answer to that in the next week. Will that work for you? I think it would be a GREAT discussion.

  • @DrummerEtc wow dude that would be really awesome!

It refers more to how the mind of a pro drummer works in regard to getting the correct fill

if you could explain a bit on that- i'd be greatful

  • @joshpattt Yea, I use this fill all of the time! If you want to see the 6 stroke roll notated, you can go to the Vic Firth website and look at their rudiment section.

  • @DrummerEtc

I guess you learn something new everyday. I thought six stroke rolls were felt as 16 notes triplets. I guess I've been playing inverted paradiddles all my life. Cool video by the way, I like the weird feeling this fill gives because of the accent on the last note of each 6 note grouping. Applicable to many things!

  • @joshpattt I'm sorry, isn't what a six stroke roll? If you're referring to the sticking thatmasterrshifu posted, it could be viewed as one, but I think he meant the capital letters as accents. If the R was a 16th, then four 32nd notes, followed by another 16th, then yes it would be a six stroke roll. But if they're all notes of the same value, not so much, it would be an inverted paradiddle diddle.
