SelectPlusTexas Gets Ready for DollyTexas Gets Ready for DollyThe Associated PressResidents along the Texas-Mexico border kept a watchful eye on Tropical Storm Dolly on Monday, stocking up on emergency supplies as forecasters predict the storm will strengthen into a hurricane and make landfall. (July 22)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] [Notes:road signs with warnings - KSAT]The warnings are clear over this south Texas highway -- get ready for some potentially dangerous weather. And locals are doing just that. [Notes:close of plywood - KSAT] Loading up sheets of plywood to protect their homes and prepare for what's predicted to be Hurricane Dolly.SOT: Frank Surrata, resident: "Last few years, we've had a lot of near misses. But that doesn't mean people are not going to get prepared. Cause we all seen what happened to Katrina and everything else. Better to spend the money now, than spend a lot more later." [Notes:NOAA video]Early Tuesday, the storm was still at Tropical Storm strength. But even that could mean high winds and up to 20 inches of rain. [Notes:map - AP Graphic] And the National Hurricane Center has issued a hurricane warning from Brownsville to Port O'Connor, with tropical storm warnings for even more of the Texas coast. [Notes:NOAA video]Forecasters predict by the time Dolly gets to land, it will be a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds between 74 and 95 miles an hour. That may happen during the day Tuesday. [Notes:various of storm preps - KSAT] Meanwhile, the governor has activated 1200 National Guard troops and put hundreds of buses on standby in case an evacuation is necessary. And, people who live in the area are getting ready - waiting in long lines to get ahold of plywood, generators, flashlights and batteries. ___ ___, The Associated Press
