with regard to the 5yr old girl (& others of course) there are children to whom 'making pictures' is very important. As an only child of parents who travelled distances, I took paper and pencil and chalks and for me it was a true joy and important to me to make pictures, trying to improve all the time. This delight in 'picturing' went on for many years, well into adulthood.
