History making final flight for Aloha Airlines, going out of passenger business after 61 years. Here is the last 2 minutes of radio traffic with Honolulu Air Traffic Controllers until it gets clearance to land. Some transmissions are hard to understand, so here's a transcript:

HAL 8: HCF Departure, Hawaiian 8 is out of 1,200

HCF APP: Hawaiian 8 Heavy, HCF Departure radar contact, climb and maintain Flight level 350

HAL 8: 350 Hawaiian 8, thank you sir

HCF APP: Aloha 261, airport is about 2 o'clock and eight miles

AAH 261: Airport in sight for Aloha 261

HCF APP: Aloha 261 it's been our pleasure, best wishes to everybody, cleared for the visual approach to runway 4R, contact Honolulu Tower.

AAH 261: Cleared for the visual 4 Right, switching tower, it's been a pleasure working with you guys too. We'll see you guys.

AAH 261: See you guys

HCF: Hawaiian 8, turn left... (switching frequency)

AAH 261: Tower, Aloha 261 on the visual for 4 Right.

  • The story of AA261 and the end of aloha caught me by surprise when I first read it on the advertiser. I really immersed in the blow-by-blow account of the final flight itself and Rudy Savio's take. Imagine the emotion inside the cabin! Capt Mike Uslan really drove the nail home when he called for supporting hawai'ian instead of Go! Sixty-one years...going in smoke Just Like That. MAHALO NUI LOA, Aloha!
