The goal is to reduce by three quarters the proportion of women who die in childbirth, and to achieve universal access to reproductive health. 1000 women will die today and every day because of complications in pregnancy and childbirth, adding up to 350,000 deaths each year. The risk of a woman dying from pregnancy-related causes during her lifetime is about 1 in 7 in Niger compared to 13 in 100,000 women in the UK.
