a lengthy song from "Somewhere at the bottom of the river between vega and altair" (over 12 minutes long). since YouTube doesn't accept videos over 10 minutes long, I split it into 2 parts.

Lyrics: I felt your sickness brush against my arm as I walked by you —
heard your voice but couldn't tell that it was you.
And, slowly, watched your sickness slip away into a place
that I'd once feared but I was not afraid this time
So I gave chase and found it, finally, slowly feeding from your head,
And from my friends, and from my family, so I grabbed it by the neck.
"For every lover you have ruined..." I dug my nails into its flesh.
"...and every life that you have taken..."
Slammed its head against the brick.
Its blood poured out onto the pavement,
I stirred it in with dirt and spit,
"I will take a part of you."
I made mortar from the mix.
Tore every organ from its body,
broke its bone and fashioned bricks,
I laid the mortar in between,
I made a throne for hope to sit.
"Too long you've torn us into pieces,
firmly held onto our wrists. Today I bury you in me."
I swallowed every inch of it.

I'll hold you, as you have held me -
you've held me in your heart, we'll be set free from fear.
We've felt our failures.
We've watched our passions leave, but we're still breathing on.
We're still beating on.
I'll hold you, as you have held me,
You've held me in your heart.

  • i love this band, this song especially, but i don't really know what hes singing about. i can generally get some ideas from it but its still pretty ambiguous. explanations?

  • @defygravity221 This is what I gather from it. A man notices a "sickness" slowly tearing apart someone he cares about. This sickness he then notices to be feeding off of of his friends and family and he wants to destroy it you could say. Jordan doesn't describe what the sickness is, but probably not a literal sickness like a cold. He portrays the sickness as a physical being that sucks the life out of the people he cares. He then talks about physically tearing apart the sickness until it could-

  • @defygravity221 (cont) no longer harm the people he loved. He wants to refashion the sickness into a throne for "hope to sit", so he breaks its bones and with a mortar he made from its blood and his spit. He's trying to take everything it has done to him and his family and turn the fear or hurt into a hope. In the next latter part of the song he sings about keeping his family and friends close to him. that's just how I interpret the song, and I think its pure poetry

  • @Username1361 it is poetry.. its so beautiful.. but i think that the sickness also could be a psychological sickness of some-sort, like addictions, and etc..

  • @faeyrr It definitely could be. I for sure wouldn't limit it to a physical sickness that he's talking about

  • I think the sickness is apathy to love after being hurt in a relationship. Who wouldn't just give up? La Dispute wouldn't. Hopeful lovers FTW

  • If i made a movie La Dispute would be the full soundtrack

  • Amazing everytime

  • I'm in love with this band.

  • So much emotion invested into everything. He makes it sound as if this is all he has. This is music

  • I would image the sickness he is describing is depression. That always can tear a family. It seems to always spread to. Although, this is highly not the case. I think this song is very poetic.

  • @defygravity221 what do you think it's about? it's about a woman.
