Sobel was good at producing a company of fighting men, but poor as a combat commander. His proficiency in skills critical for combat officers was somewhat lacking - for example, Sobel had difficulties in map reading (as depicted in the Band of Brothers miniseries episode "Currahee") and his grasp of military tactics was apparently poor.

"Camp Mackall "
=================
Camp Mackall is an active U.S. Army training facility located nearby Southern Pines, North Carolina. The facility is in close proximity to Fort Bragg, which is home to the XVIII Airborne Corps, the 82nd Airborne Division and the U.S. Army Special Operations Command Headquarters. Camp Mackall is a sub-installation of the Fort Bragg. Camp Mackall is the setting of primary training to become a member of U.S. Army Special Forces.

On February 8, 1943, General Order Number 6 renamed the facility Camp Mackall in honor of Private John Thomas (Tommy) Mackall. He was born May 17, 1920 in Ohio and grew up in Wellsville, Ohio . He served in the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment. During the Allied invasion of North Africa in the airborne segment called Operation Torch, he was mortally wounded in an attack by French Vichy aircraft on his aircraft as it landed near Oran. Seven paratroopers died at the scene and several were wounded, including Mackall. He was evacuated by air to a British hospital at Gibraltar where he died on November 12, 1942.

  • @naamhier he didn't have a funeral

  • if sobel didnt train them that why the SS would have killed them before they reached the ground XD

  • @ramennoodlechef What the hell do you know about Sobel? and Winters and Nixon? I have nothing against them but you almost seem to think you know them personally simply by watching an romantisized movie. It isn't like Sobel frickin' killed somebody. Just doing his job dude. I'm sure all Easy Co. men were in fine psychical condition and if they didn't want to be "overworked" they picked a wrong career choice :p

  • @naamhier WRONG, MAJ Winters and CPT Nixon (LT's at the time) carried E Co as well as the soldiers helping each other out by squaring each other away. What he was trying to do was make himself look good by overworking them. He never gave a damn about them like Winters and Nixon did. That is why he never got the respect from the troops like the other two did, They were outstanding leaders.

  • Doc Roe looks so incredibly pissed. I don't blame him.

  • @naamhier Apparently Sobel didn't have a funeral

  • @TheMedic999 he wouldn't have done that, though in real life. as an officer he would know better than to point a weapon at somebody unless he meant to shoot at them, even though in a training scenario like this where it would not have been loaded. but maybe sobel was indeed just that bad an officer as we are led to believe

  • What an ass Sobel was sometimes.

  • imagine what would've happened if sobel had led easy into combat

  • @tehBLAX oh, haha :D and i'm afraid so... look it up on google
