If you ever have a chance to hear Barry Black give a sermon, don't miss out. I had a chance this past new years, and it was really a wonderful experience I've listened to a lot of sermons, and I never have enjoyed a speaker so much!

No one can directly answer my Question. i have no problems bearing arms either, but WHEN IT COMES TO THE SABBATH, WHAT JOB IS ACCEPTABLE?

Our freedom is not FREE! I am a Seventh Day Adventist and the fact that you are able to sit here and make this comment and have the CHOICE whether or not you want to work on Sabbath comes as a result of PEOPLE. SOLDIERS who are helping to keep this country free. God forbid if America decided to take the Sabbath off and not work! The first thing other countries would say is, "ATTACK them on Sabbath!" No one is protecting the country then! Give me a break and stop being a sadventist follower!

I have been a seventh-day-adventist for years now and when it comes to bearing of arms I feel that it is time we took a stand to help protect our country as well as non-adventist. What would we do if no one was protecting this country. There is a time for war and there is a time not to make war. When the time come to go to war, we should all join together in order to keep the peace.

my question still has not been answered, but i will just have to pray on it? and ask Chaplain Black what is his stance on it.

Well, its really up to that soldier in question. If a situation arises that may very well save lives by fixing plane engines on the sabbath, then he or she has to weigh the situation carefully if it happens that he is the only one capable of fixing engines. Generally speaking the church takes a stand only as those activities being performed on the sabbath run contrary to the principle of true sabbath keeping.

this does not answer my question. fighting in a war is secular. like i said before Desmond Doss who was in the Army said he would not have worked on sabbath if he did'nt work in the medical field. so what do we do if you have to fix jets on the sabbath during war? does the sda church have a stand on it or not? or is it left up chaplin Black to answer this question.

For starters SDAs do not bear arms. The question of only being allowed to go to church for 2 hours on the sabbath seems to me to depend on a whole lot of things. If you are an essential services worker, like a fireman, doctor, nurse, medtech, etc...then these factors can determine how long you worship in a church service for...

Yes that is what the commandment says, but it has to be seen in the context of what work the sabbath commandment prohibited. Doing acts of goodness or missionary work is not the same as secular work.

as a chaplin do you preach about the sabbath telling people that they shouldnt work on the sabbath? i understand if you work in the medical field, but what if you didn't? Desmond Doss refused to do any other jobs except in the medical field.
