Inspired by the documentary Ready Steady Skip we decided to go out locally to skip for the first time in our lives. We are already charity and freecycle loyal customers but never considered the option of skipping. It is easier than you think; just chuck away any mental stigmas and pre-conceptions, take a ruck sack and you are half done. The other half is just opening the skips and carefully looking around.

"The Bigger Picture - 17 million tonnes of food goes into British landfill sites every year - 4 million tonnes of this food is perfectly good to eat. If sold in shops, this food would have a value of around £18 billion - The supermarkets call this a surplus, meanwhile 4 million people in the UK can't afford to buy healthy food - Supermarkets prefer to throw away food that is approaching its sell-by date rather than mark it down in price, as the cost of staff time is greater than the money made on the reduced items."
