Q (as in cue) is a virtual instrument powered by the Native Instruments Kontakt Player which can be loaded into almost any software package including Cubase, Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton and many more.

Q contains almost two thousand patches and 16GB of sample material including cinematically thunderous drums, percussion, winds, vocals, ethnic instruments, metallic textures, glass, guitar, toy, ambient atmospheres, synth landscapes, and trailer-ready effects.

The library includes both playable melodic pitched instruments and multisampled one-shot percussion and effects. A large collection of epic percussion loops which automatically sync to tempo and are playable both whole and by the slice, are also included.

In this video, Time+Space product specialist Jon Dennis gives you a demonstration of Q and some of it's features.

  • do you need to use a midi controller for this?

  • @atayado It's not vital to have a midi controller as you can use your mouse and keyboard but hitting a real keyboard lends a completely different feel to it, giving it a more human touch than using the mouse and keyboard.

  • How would you rate the orchestral elements, specifically?

  • @nsmadsen Actually most of this doesn't sound that great as I make my way through the video.

  • The drum hits during the first 25 seconds sound like crap to me.

  • I wish they would include useful legato for the horns and things. Those patches just sound useless to me. The rest of it is very interesting and could be useful.

  • This is a seriously lacklustre package.

I gave it a test run today and a lot of the sounds are very dull indeed, and the overall sound qiaulity is quite second rate.

The demo in this video is pitched at making it sound good, but in reality its simply not worth any of my money.

  • I made the mistake of getting it thinking it was a combination of raw sounds (srtings, horns, and other "cinematic" sounds) + pre-composed soundscapes. Its mainly the latter. Ambiences, fills, crashes, sound FX, textures, loops....oh yeah and a few (and I mean very few orchestral sounds). So if your looking for a cinematic orchestra plug-in with some great extras, this is the wrong instrument for you. If your looking for Ambiences, fills, crashes, sound FX, textures, loops get this.
