Ardoyne Residents Collective Stage Peaceful Protest against Triumphalist Loyalist March which provocatively passes a Nationalist area of Belfast year on year. As a result of the March being forcibly shepherded through the area by baton wielding and armed RUC stormtroopers backed up by 2 water cannon,, the understandable frustration of residents reaches boiling point and inevitablly boils over into serious rioting. The unchanged RUC acts in the interests of Britain and not as they say, in the interests of peace and prevention of disorder. There would be no trouble if Loyalists restricted these last few seriously contentious marches to their own areas and learn to accept the fact, there are two main traditions in the occupied 6 counties of Ireland and the days are gone that seen us dictated to, victimised because of our belief in a unified Nation and treated as second class citizens. This will never end until all cultures realise that we are the same, a majority of working class citizens with different cultural identities but who can live, work, and socialise as one with respect for our traditions, without trampling over peoples rights and constantly rubbing their noses in it.

@TheJohnny - I understand your sentiments! But the taxpayers loss has been incurred as a result of a highly provocative parade being forced through an area it isn't wanted. Baggot harks on about lost money which could be used for schools, hospitals etc but he could save the money by preventing these parades in the first place, there would be no rioting, no need for 500 RUC on the streets, hemming people in their areas for a whole day, criminalising youths as a result of their inevitable actions.

These are psni not RUC. If it had been RUC only about the half the manpower would have been required to police this legal and authorised demonstration. I do agree however that it should be moved from this area but not to pacify the thugs just to save money and aggravation for the taxpayers
