MORE LEGATO !!!

@ijunkie These instruments by Dowd are so great. He sold them with a guarantee: he would always be willing to buy them back for more then he sold them to you. My own thought was, if I was going to own one harpsichord it had to have the range to play Scarlatti K 380 and that means a high "g". The instrument has an interesting history including being owned for most of its existence by Ralph Kirkpatrick (who is the "K" in the Scarlatti "K" numbers).

@bcarsoon agreed. somethign liek that would be an honor. not in the same realm, but i had "custody" of my firneds maserati gransport while he was out of hte country. said i coudl drive it whenever, and however. hsi cd changer was loaded with this music. .best of both worlds.

wehr can i get a harpsichord
-
@hslpanda No pedals actually makes playing harder.

Good job! loved it. although I'm a devoted lute fan, I must admit it sounds better on the harpsichord

@SFChristo I had custody of Fred Hammond's Dowd briefly, many years ago, when he was traveling. Alas, for various reasons I was intimidated most of the time even to touch it. But it was an honor to have it in the house.

@hslpanda "just realized harpsichords dont have pedals" yes, makes me work much harder with finger substitution.

Thank you - a difficult piece nicely played. Since 1966 etched in my mind as played by Wanda Landowska on her powerful Pleyel harpsichord with its iron frame; powerful because before the days of efficient electronic sound systems in concert halls, a regular harpsichord would have been lost in solo recitals. Kirkpatrick, btw, took lessons from Mme Landowska but didn't like her methods much; he felt that she stifled his own creativity! Can't win 'em all!

@peteacher52 They had a bitter falling out. He was a difficult man (from what I hear from his students).

@peteacher52 BTW- the harpsichord in this video belonged to Ralph Kirkpatrick as his house instrument.

The sound of your harpsichord is very rich and full, even after the YouTube Conversion O_O
So beautiful :)

@BadButNotSad Thank you. It IS rich but some of it is how close the mic is and also you can change how "hard" the pluck is and we had it set to a very hard and tense setting (loud and bright but stiff to play, thus lots of misfirings when I try to play it with high lifted fingers).
